Since this was my first novel, I had to make major decisions following the developmental edit. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It was brutal. I had to cut, cut, cut! In the end, I cut over 20,000 words from the draft I sent to my editor.

I first started writing this novel in January 2020. When the pandemic hit, I had to put it aside for months. When I got back into the writing after six months, I had to revisit it with a fresh start, but there was a disconnect between what I had written and where the novel was heading. I had started as a pantser, which works great for a lot of people. It didn’t work for me.

I finally made an outline as a plotter, but I’d already written a lot of words. Unfortunately, I had to delete many scenes, and it was tough. A lot of writers have a hard time saying goodbye to the words they wrote. It hurt to cut them, but I survived. Once I started cutting, it became a challenge. Can I cut another 5,000 words and still have the necessary details? I did. And I came out feeling so much better about my book.

The book cover and title will be revealed soon. Make sure you have signed up for the newsletter to receive updates on progress of the book’s release.
